Where's a feminist when you need one?

Sati is a ghastly Indian tradition whereby a widow is slowly burnt to death as part of her husband’s funeral ritual. Naturally enough, a widower doesn’t have to do the same should his wife pre-decease him. The cruelty and barbarism of this is almost indescribable, and it’s hard to imagine a ‘cultural’ practice, anywhere, any time, more reprehensible.
In many ways it’s the ultimate in anti-feminism. It was outlawed by the British early on in the Raj, and they strung up anyone they found guilty of enforcing it.

Now Maya Jasanoff is a tenured Humanities Professor at Harvard, and you can't get deeper into the PC/feminist fever-swamp than that. And ipso facto, you couldn’t find anyone anywhere more opposed to the likes of sati.

Well, you could, actually.

Writing in the current issue of the New York Review Of Books she has this to say. “Seen in one light, the abolition of sati looks like a model for more recent crusades such as the ‘liberation’ [her inverted commas] of Afghan women from the Taliban or the campaign against female circumcision. In its own times however, the abolition of sati, welcome as it was by a small, vocal constituency [my emphasis] of Indian reformers… formed part of a cultural and legislative shift that imposed British ‘civilisation’ [her inverted commas] on the Indians.”

Can you fucking credit that?

The outlawing of probably the most heinous anti-woman practice the world has known is seen as imposing so-called civilization on the noble savage. It just goes to show that feminists will prioritise non-Western ‘cultures’ at all times, even when women are the main victims of such cultures, as the booming silence from them of the anti-women practices of Islam testify.

Truly, the West’s culture and civilization are doomed when the people who should most appreciate them hate them as much as they do. Who's left to defend them?

Another blonde joke

Blonde comes up to a man in the supermarket and says ‘I think you’re the father of one of my kids’

Shocked, the man reflects for a while, then replies ‘were you the stripper I shagged on the pool table while your sister held my pants’?

No, silly’ she replied sweetly, ‘I’m your son’s English teacher’

A picture tells 1000 words...

The St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is a genuinely good organization. Through voluntary effort it looks after the most needy in our society, supporting those who fall through the welfare cracks. It’s increasingly addressing the issue of broken or dysfunctional families (although it doesn’t refer to them as such) through community centre-type services.

Carrigtohill, a very small town near Cork, has one such centre. It looks after children whose parents cannot or will not look after them. An article in the Irish Examiner of December 27 explained the good things that go on there. The article also had a photo of one of the supervisors and a large group of children.

Now Carrigtohill, on the face of it, and I travel there frequently, doesn’t have a black population as such. Unlike many other Irish towns, you’ll seldom see a black face as you walk along the main (only) street.

Yet in the Examiner’s photo, more than half of the children are black! The foundations for just what we’ve seen everywhere else in the West. Blacks come in, breed freely, throw their offspring onto the welfare services. These offspring then grow up to populate violent, crime-infested, welfare-dependent neighbourhoods.

Christ grant me patience!

Pork the one you love??

This was part of a Sask Pork (The Saskatchewan Pork Industry) sales campaign in Canada.

I think they need a new ad agency.

Black Peter's "offensive"

The Dutch have a tradition going back to the year dot in which Santa is assisted by Zwarte Piet (Black Peter). The Dutch are very attached to this tradition, but according to, a user-generated news site with links to CNN, certain foreigners within Holland are not.

For years many foreigners living in The Netherlands have been trying, without success, to point out the negative racist connotations of the Black Peter. We have been trying to let Dutch people know that many people find it offensive to don "blackface/golliwog" makeup.

We would like to see the Dutch realize that it would be nicer if they made "Zwarte Piet" a non-racist character -- just a person with some soot on his face from coming down the chimney, rather than with painted dark skin, afro, and a Caribbean accent to appear as a "slave" of the white "Sinterklaas", of which he was originally intended.”

To which my suggestion would be, if you don't like the Dutch traditions, and are ‘offended’ (that word again) by them, why don't you just fuck off back to the non-offensive hell-hole you fled?

But why do that when you can, er, convice the Dutch by more direct means? The way the Religion of Peace does it.

Here’s the report again: “There have been unfortunate threats to elementary schools who celebrate "Zwarte Piet". These threats are very sad, but not all that surprising given the current anti-multiculturalist climate in The Netherlands.”

Now isn't that sweet? Typical of the ‘moderate’ Muslims approach that I've pointed out on many occasions. It goes like this: We first politely ask you to bend to our will. If you don't, some of our more hot-headed members will, unfortunately – and while we don't agree with it we understand it - apply violence to ensure that you do.

Ergo, problem solved.

And what did you think of that little bit at the end “these threats are very sad, but not all that surprising given the current anti-multiculturalist climate”? The whole game has been betrayed by their own lips. We are now multicultural, so if you don't eliminate what we deem to be offensive we’ll resort to violence to ensure you do.

Well, don't say we haven’t been warned.

Seasonal madness

Einstein defined madness as doing exactly the same thing repeatedly in the expectation of achieving a different result. This is always brought to mind when the Pope prays for world peace every Christmas. To be quickly followed by yet another new year of war and slaughter. When will the penny drop that maybe God doesn't want peace? And why is it breathlessly reported by the MSM every year as if it were actually something newsworthy?

NEWSPEAK at the Irish Times

My learned readers will be familiar with George Orwell's 1984, and the term 'Newspeak'. This in effect meant that the Ministry of Propaganda twisted the meaning of words to suit their totalitarian agenda (e.g. this Ministry became the Ministry of Truth), and a whole parallel world of untruth was created by subtle and not-so-subtle language distortions.

We got a similar example this week in the Irish Times. There could, and should , have been a shock headline 'Almost One Birth In Five To Non-Nationals'. And this would indeed be a shocking statistic, showing as it does that the whole structure of our population will undergo fundamental change if such trends are maintained. Needless to say, cultural enrichers from Africa topped the reproductive league table. Looks like there'll be no shortage of knife-wielding recruits for the next decade's gangs.

So how can we suitably distort this alarming message? Simple, spin it 'Fewer Than One Birth In Five To Non-Nationals'.

Just like that. And from the self-styles 'paper of record'.

Dangle in the wind, ya bastard

Joyous Christmas cheer as we observe that rancid pope-poisoning pervert Bishop John Magee dangle slowly in the wind. He clings to power like shit to a blanket but his days seem numbered. He seems genuinely confused as to why he’s attracting so much opprobrium.

And why not? Protecting child molesters has been a key element of Bishops’ job spec for years. And now he’s being hung out to dry. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I met him briefly once and found him to be an unctuous, greasy, limp-wristed, insincere, conniving, reptilian, jelly-like excuse for a human being.

He was catapulted into the Cloyne Diocese after his shenanigans during the untimely death of Pope John Paul I became too much for even the Vatican to stomach. Having spent his life up to then as a pampered Vatican bureaucrat, he was horrified to find that one of his female servants would be spending Christmas Day with her family. ‘But who’s going to look after me?’ he wailed, putting immense pressure on the woman to forsake her own family.

He’s as bent as a banana. I saw him in Cork Airport once saying goodbye to an Italian choirboy whom he had over in his palace as a ‘guest’. The way he groped, pawed and slobbered over the youngster was stomach-churning. Little wonder he was so unenthusiastic about putting the clampers on pedophile priests in his own diocese.

Slavery lives on

I posted some time ago on the Great Slavery Wheeze, whereby enterprising ‘descendants of slaves’ were building up, with the aid of the Victim Industry, an apology for slavery from former Western slaving countries. There was also a little matter of compensation – not for the money, you must understand, just the principle. If you read the post in question you’ll see how, using their ‘logic’ I worked out that we in the West actually were owed money by the slave descendants.

Now, as every schoolboy knows, slavery was abolished by the West, specifically Britain, over 200 year ago. Unfortunately, especially for the slaves, it appears that there are more slaves world-wide today than there ever were in history. We have Anti-Slavery International (ASI) to thank for this interesting information.

So the Brits and the Yanks are at it again, are they? Well, no, not quite.

Rescued Sudanese slaves

So where, then? Well, quelle surprise, mainly in Africa, from the very people who are now trying to shake down the rest of us. It’s most severe in Dystopia West Africa, where countries such as Benin And Togo provide slave for their wealthier neighbours such as Nigeria, Gabon and Ghana, where they’re forced to work in the agricultural, domestic and sex industries. In fact UNICEF estimates that no fewer than 200,000 children from West and Central Africa are sold into slavery each year.

The abduction and operation of the practice involves unspeakable cruelty and general abuse.

Now when I hear the words cruelty and abuse, my mind naturally turns to the Religion Of Peace. A little further research and, ah yes, there it is.

Check this BBC report from Sudan:

Arab militias rode in to her village on horseback, firing their guns. When the adults fled, the children and cattle were rounded up and made to walk north for five days before they were divided between members of the raiding party. The report goes on to quote one rescued victim:

"My abductor told me that I was his slave and I had to do all the work he told me to - fetching water and firewood, looking after animals and farming. When I was 12, he said he wanted to sleep with me. I could not refuse because I was a slave, I had to do everything he wanted, or he could have killed me."

According to a study by the Kenya-based Rift Valley Institute, some 11,000 young boys and girls were seized and taken across the internal border - many to the states of South Darfur and West Kordofan. Most were forcibly converted to Islam, given Muslim names and told not to speak their mother tongue.

Ali - Yemeni slave in Saudi

Physical mutilation is practiced upon these slaves not only to prevent escape, but to enforce the owners' ideologies. According to an ASI report: "Kon, a thirteen-year-old Dinka boy, was abducted by Arab nomads and taken to a merchant's house. There he found several Dinka men hobbling, their Achilles tendons cut because they refused to become Muslims. Threatened with the same treatment the boy converted."

The report goes on “Animist tribes in southern Sudan are frequently invaded by Arab militias from the North, who kill the men and enslave the women and children.”

Kill the men and enslave the women and children”. Now where the hell could they have got an idea like that? Well, from the Raving Psychopath 'Prophet' himself, no less!

I take the following from another post I made, and in turn take it from ‘sacred’ Islamic texts.

Sahih Bukhari, volume 5, Book 59, Number 512: Narrated Anas: Then the inhabitants of Khaibar came out running on the roads. The Prophet had their men killed, their offspring and woman taken as captives. Safiya was amongst the captives, She first came in the share of Dahya Alkali but later on she belonged to the Prophet (prophet took her away from him after giving Dahya two women and five men in exchange for Safia, Ref. Sahih Muslim 8:3328) .

Spot any connection? That's why slavery is rampant throughout the Islamic world. They're just doing what 'the perfect man' did all the time.

One of Pakistan's 'Shackled Slaves'

Anyway, the question is, if there’s more slavery today than ever, why is the West being singled out for reparations, 200 years after we put a stop to it? The answer of course is, because we’re the West. We’re seen as naïve fools who’ll fall for any cock-and-bull story as long as it’s from our non-white brethren. And they’re right.

You’ll wait a long time to see claims going in against their fellow Africans, Arabs, or Indians/Pakistanis, where hundreds of thousands of shackled slaves are still held.

Don't blame the reparationistas, blame us fools.

Why does Ireland need an army?

As the Irish economy plunges towards the precipice, and any few bob will be eagerly grabbed, I offer a solution that will save over €1 billion annually. Get rid of the army. Close it down.Take away their toys and send them home. And then sell of all the prime land currently occupied by square-bashing soldiers.

Maybe. But tell me this - why does Ireland need an army? What's that you say? we'll be immediately invaded by Russia or France in its absence? Get this. Our army is too small by a factor of fifty to deter any potential invader. So what purpose does it serve?

Peacekeeping abroad, you say.

Well, for a start we don't keep the peace anywhere. In fact the very idea of the Irish keeping the peace takes some digesting. We do indeed go to various trouble spots, but always under draconian UN-defined restrictions. This means that if the army is attacked by well armed enemies they're not allowed to fire back. They must first ring the UN General Assembly, which will tell them to fire one warning shot. If this doesn't work they may fire a second, again after consulting with New York. Then, and only then, (assuming any of them are still alive) they may fire one round at the enemy's feet.

Anyway, it seems to me that our army operates under the assumption that once any nastiness starts they get the hell out. This isn't a reflection on their courage, it's just that this seems to be the arrangement. In any event I've gone right off all of these initiatives, like the current one in Darfur, where today's enemy is tomorrow's ally, and vice versa.

We have no internal enemies and even when the IRA was active the army played essentially a back-up role.

What about our EU partners, you ask? Well, I'm sure they make all the right noises about needing our forces, but in fact they're just a drop in the ocean and nobody would even miss them.

Costa Rica, a wealthy, peaceful country in the middle of violent fucked-up Central America, doesn't have an army. Which probably explains why it's been democratically run by civilian governments since they decommissioned it - the first country to formally do so.. And they've never been invaded since then.

Now of you go, Brian Lenehan and Brian Cowan. Look at the money I've saved you.

Tough times. For some...

‘Dr.' Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin (I apply inverted commas to the “Dr.” because Cardinals don't have to have a PhD to get that title, it comes with the purple socks when they get promoted) had stern words for the Government in an interview with Pat Kenny on the Late Late Show last Friday. (By the way, isn't his outfit gorgeous?)

He enjoined the Government, now that we’re encountering tough times, to “develop a robust national poverty strategy”. He also urged people to mind their money. "We would all be happier if we were a little bit more austere in our lifestyle. I think there is room for a lot of improvement. Nobody is in favour of waste, throwing food away or spending on things that are absolutely useless. If we learn some of that it will be for the good of all of us."

Indeed. Indeed. Highly commendable. It’d have been even more commendable had he offered to pay tax on Church profits. But let's not be niggardly.

So presumably Diarmuid set about living up to his word by cutting back on his own luxurious lifestyle? Well, no, not really. In fact he’s just spent half a million doing up his palace in Drumcondra (near Bertie – another daily Communicant).

And, doing his own bit for poverty and humility, Diarmuid does a lot of his own cooking. He likes to cook. And what better to support the habit than a €94,000 top-of-the-range Miele kitchen? Can just imagine him, slaving away there, all on his own. Brings Eleanor Rigby to mind, it does, 'mending his socks in the night when there’s nobody there’.

Poor guy.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, Diarmuid.

Don't trust your betters

A recent Steve Sailer post on the financial meltdown underlines just how corrupt and blind the whole system is. It also underlines how daft we are to trust in our ‘betters’. He shows that there’s little incentive for outsiders to point out big shots' fraud and misinformation, and such whisle blowers face a lot of potential risk.

Steve takes time out to salute Harry Markopolous, who first brought Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme to the Securities and Exchange Commission's awareness in 2000 and then wrote them a 19 page letter in 2005 listing 29 Red Flags.

Of course, the SEC didn't do anything substantitive about it (other than one SEC official marrying into the Madoff family). Markopolous tried to talk the SEC into taking action by warning them that if they didn't move fast, Elliot Spitzer would beat them to it. (But now we know that the Spitzer family real estate firm, like so many New York real estate businesses, had money with Madoff.)

One thing that stands out is that Markopolous wasn't alone. He was just the guy who kept complaining about it. Markopolous's 2005 letter cites numerous experts, either by name or by position, who figured out this was a fraud. But Markopolous was one of the few to do anything about it.

Lesson is - don't trust the experts ever again.

Incompetence off the Richter Scale

It’s seriously overdone to say something defies belief, but the expression can be justifiably applied to the economic incompetence of the Irish Government. Not alone did they sleep-walk into the present economic crisis and, a la Bush, transform record surpluses into record deficits, but they still haven't learned, even as we get within touching distance of the iceberg.

In order to save a few million they’ve implemented deeply unpopular cuts in health and education, but meantime they’ve ignored the opportunity to save billions, for example by deferring any foreign ‘aid’ until we get back into the black, and by selling off some of our mis-managed state assets.

Then comes the ‘pork crisis’. Now the annual value of this industry is €350 million. We lose a few days production and the industry (mainly farmers) come looking for compensation. Leave aside for a minute that any other so-called industry would have to fend for itself, but the Government immediately agrees a package worth €180 million! Half a year’s worth! Please explain.

Then, with 2009 likely to show miniscule inflation levels, if not outright deflation, they agree to give public servants a 4% pay increase, costing well over €1 billion. And of course getting nothing in return, such as changes in outmoded work practices.

And now there’s a nasty sting in the tail. With our AAA+ rating of a few years ago now in tatters, we’ll have to pay top dollar for the billions we’ll need to borrow over the next few years. That's bad. But what's really bad is that we may not get anyone to lend to us. The pool of funds to buy government bonds has shriveled like a scrotum in a snow-storm, as even the Germans, the most worthy of borrowers, have recently found out.

We truly live in interesting times.

What really motivates Bush?

Have you ever wondered what drives people to seek political power? I can readily understand, if not agree with, efforts motivated by religion, class, country or race. (Of course, all too often these fuse into one). In a more abstract sense I can understand people being driven by conservatism or liberalism.

But the broader Bush regime puzzles me. Sure, they call themselves conservatives, and have mastered the traditional conservative vocabulary. But as I've suggested in this post, Bush is no conservative. In fact he undermines most of the fundamental conservative principles through reckless financial mismanagement, becoming embroiled in ‘foreign entanglements’, while making government bigger and more intrusive then ever before. The same can be said for any of the other potential drivers, i.e. professed adherence to them have not been supported by actions..

So what are the drivers?

Two new books provide some interesting guidelines. ‘The Predator State’, by James Galbraith (son of the famous JK), and 'Imposter: How GW Bush Bankrupted America And Betrayed The Reagan Legacy’ by Bruce Bartlett come at the subject from different perspectives but arrive at similar conclusions.

Galbraith sees the emergence of a ‘new class – endowed with vast personal income, freed from the corporation, who set out to take over the state and run it – not for any ideological reason, but simple in the way that would bring them, individually and as a group, the most money, the least disturbed power, and the greatest chance of rescue should something go wrong’

Galbraith defines this as ‘predation’ - ‘the systematic abuse of public institutions for private profit’. Most recent events clearly support this interpretation, most notably the bailout for Wall St. fat cats while leaving millions of ordinary citizens immeasurably worse off. Add in the legislation that Bush has rushed through, in the interregnum period before he leaves office, which allows his business cronies rape and pillage the environment at will.

But is this motivation enough? Surely, if you’re already vastly wealthy you won't feel overly motivated to take over the political system to gouge out even further booty? It certainly wouldn’t be for me. Once I achieved a certain degree of financial comfort I found the economic imperative almost disappeared.

Who can say? But whatever the reasons, they've been disastrous for America and the world.

Penis Panic Puzzles Police Professionals

From Reuters we learn that police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises. This after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.

Reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur. As I reported in this post, many body parts, especially those from young children, and when they’re extracted with a lot of pain and suffering, form a valuable component of traditional medicine in Africa.

Rumours of penis theft began circulating last week and quickly dominated radio call-in shows, with listeners advised to beware of fellow passengers in communal taxis wearing gold rings. Why gold rings? Don't know.

Purported victims, 14 of whom were also detained by police, claimed that sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear, in what some residents said was an attempt to extort cash with the promise of a cure.

"You just have to be accused of that, and people come after you. We've had a number of attempted lynchings. ... You see them covered in marks after being beaten," Kinshasa's police chief, Jean-Dieudonne Oleko, told Reuters. Well, that's the least I'd do if someone shrank my penis, I can tell you. Police arrested the accused sorcerers and their victims in an effort to avoid the sort of bloodshed seen in Ghana a decade ago, when 12 suspected penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs.

"I'm tempted to say it's one huge joke," Oleko said. "But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it's become tiny or that they've become impotent. To that I tell them, 'How do you know if you haven't gone home and tried it'," he said.

Needless to say, 'diversity' makes such practices commonplace now in ireland and Europe generally. And we'll likley see more of it as in South Africa ‘accredited’ faith healers are now legally free to operate under the terms of the new Traditional Healers Bill.

Missing Black Manager riddle

A monstrous new issue of shocking racial discrimination has reared its ugly head. It seems there’s a dastardly plot to prevent blacks from getting jobs as football managers. And it’s happening world-wide!

Myles Brand in the Huffington Post laments “over the last three and a half decades, we have seen the numbers of African-American student-athletes swell to more than half in football and men's basketball. Ironically, what we have not seen is any progress in the hiring of African-American head football coaches in intercollegiate athletics. In fact, we are losing ground.

With firings this fall, there are, as of this date, only four black head football coaches among the 119 Football Bowl Subdivision programs in NCAA Division I. In the entire history of Division I football, excluding the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, there have only been 23 African-American head coaches, never more than eight at any one time, and now there are only four.

And then we have Garth Crooks (not Garth Brooks), formerly of Spurs and now with his snout deep in the Equality Industry trough as a football adviser to the Commission for Racial Equality. Crooks cites figures from the BBC which show the ‘scale of the problem’

  • Less [in the good old days when the Beeb wasn’t a diversity cesspool they’d have written ‘fewer’, not ‘less’ – but no matter] than 1% of senior coaching staff at the 92 league clubs are black - even though more than 20% of players are.
  • Only two managers are not white.
  • Just two of the nine most highly-qualified black coaches in the country currently have jobs in the league.
  • Since its inception in 1992, there has never been a black English manager in the Premiership - even though about 25% of its players are not white.

Crooks, doing his bit for the Victim Industry, describes the situation as "appalling".

"Football should be ashamed of itself," he told BBC Sport. "We're certainly not in a position where we can afford to exclude a whole section of society from coaching and management."

Just last week Paul Ince complained that criticism of him was largely ‘racially motivated.’

Now as has become widely recognised, (although not yet by the Nobel Committee) I solved the riddle of high black imprisonment rates in this post. And I have now solved the Riddle Of The Missing Black Football Managers.

And the reason is….

It’s the same reason you see so few blacks in senior management positions anywhere, or as scientists, surgeons or entrepreneurs: They’re no good at it. They can't cut it. Does anyone seriously think that a club with 40% of its players black will, for racist reasons, refuse to employ black coaches or managers? It’s just that none of them have been any good. The record shows it, and the same in American football. They were fired because they were no good.

Go back to Paul Ince. Last season was a good but not exceptional one for Blackburn. They finished close to the top of the Premiership, narrowly missed qualification for Europe at the very last game of the season. Ince took over this year, with the same team, and has lead them strongly and unerringly down to the bottom of the table, where they now flounder in the relegation zone. And the criticism is not based on this, but because "I's black".

As I've said on countless occasions, if you can't recognise what the problem is, you won't find a solution. And that’s why this whole diversity quota thing has been and will continue to be a disaster as long as we let the Victim Industry get away with it.

The madness never stops

Islamits who planned to kill cartoonist released back into Danish society!

One of the two Tunisians who were allegedly plotting to kill the cartoonist who drew the 2006 controversial drawings of the raving psychopath 'prophet' Mohammed has been released from Danish prison into society. The sensitive court case has been heard at every level of Denmark’s legal system, but eventually the Supreme Court ruled there was not enough evidence to continue detaining the remaining suspect, known only as SC.

The other Tunisian, known as KS, left Denmark voluntarily in August in a shadowy case where Danish intelligence let him go allegedly because to try him in court would have meant revealing the methods and sources they use to do their intelligence work.

The JP news service reported that suspect SC was also to be deported back to Tunisia, but the Refugee Appeals Board killed the motion because they felt he would be persecuted or tortured at home.

Oh the poor dear. Far beter to let him in Denmark where he can practice his terrorism in peace. I'd love to see the whole Appeals Board collectiely mugged by Islamic guests in that country.

Personal gypsy update

There’s an old saying that if something appears to be too good to be true – it is. During my early music career I was offered the opportunity to play at a wedding in Kinsale where we’d get £20 per head. Now this, in the early seventies, was the equivalent of a full week’s pay for the average industrial worker.  OK, we’d have to play shite material, but we’d hold our noses and persist.

After setting up the gear we strolled around – and the penny dropped with a resounding clang. Oh Jesus! Was this a knacker (traveller/itinerant/ gypsy) wedding?

Quick - check the guest list! An ample sprinkling of Carruthers, Ponsonbys or Pilkington-Gores would be reassuring. On the other hand were I to see… my heart sank and my sphincter dilated as I moved down the tables..... McDonagh, O’Driscoll, Ward, Mongan, Carmody. Worst fears confirmed.

A quick conflab. We could probably flee now, while the going was good. All three of us were driven in almost equal measure by greed and cowardice. Greed won. ‘But we’ll need to get paid in advance’ Peter the bassist suggested.

‘Fine – excellent idea’ I responded, ‘off you go up to nice Mr. Ward and tell him we want to get paid in advance because we think he’s a violent crook’. He declined, deferring to me as the band leader. Eventually it was agreed that all three of us would go to forward. In fact Mr. Ward was a perfect gentleman, and even if he was offended by the implication of what we were doing, he never let on. In fact I felt a bit guilty when he handed us the money, but not guilty enough, of course, to refuse it.

We commenced shortly afterwards, and it all seemed to be going swimmingly. Plenty of people on the floor, good natured bantering, good response to my witticisms on the mike. But after about an hour I noticed Terry (our drummer) removing his false teeth, and storing them carefully in the innards of his kit bag.

This was a worrying development. Although he had been known to remove his teeth say when a particularly energetic drum solo was coming up (to stop them flying out), he always placed them casually beside him, where they grinned at us for the duration of the solo. The fact that he was storing them away now was a source of considerable worry to me, because Terry was many years older than the rest of us, and was a shrewd and experienced observer. Even if he was a drummer.

‘There’s something up here’ I turned to Peter ‘keep your eyes peeled’

The atmosphere had indeed changed and an air of menace was palpable. We played on, but now nobody was dancing. I then got a brainwave. Based on Shakespeare's premise that ‘music soothes the savage breast’ I felt that a relaxed pleasant tune was just what was needed.

Right lads – Travelling Light’ I called out, ‘quickly now, for Chrissake’

‘Got no bags or baggage to slow me down…... no comb or no toothbrush’ !!!!!!!!

My Jesus, what the fuck had I been thinking? They’ll think we were taking the piss out of them, and indeed, I noticed a few sharp looks cast our way. I immediately stopped, holding up my hands and saying: ‘ladies and gentlemen, a special announcement’. Now I had no idea what that announcement would be, all I wanted was to stop singing Travelling fucking Light.

My mouth, which was by now fully disengaged from my brain, was starting some bullshit when there was a loud crash, and two men could be seen wrestling at the far corner of the room. This was obviously the cue for the battle to begin, as suddenly the whole room was engulfed. As chairs, glasses, tables, bodies all flew through the air, we implemented our well practiced riot response routine.

Bass drum turned on its side, amps and speakers laid face down, and guitars buried under anything that could be found. Such incidents were fairly common, and usually broke up after a few minutes, with pride restored all around. The gear safe, we’d usually sit it out, and in fact quite enjoyed the entertainment, providing our yellow hides were safe.

But this was something else,. violence on a level none of us had ever seen before. Punches, of course, kicks, sometimes, but that was largely it for us. Here faces were ripped open with broken bottles and glass, downed combatants were kicked stamped and gouged as they lay on the floor, metal chairs smashed over heads. Fearsome punches thudded into bare flesh . And women were in the middle of it, laying into all and sundry.

We were sickened and terrified. But escape was blocked – the nearest exit was half way down the hall – and none of us were stepping into that melee! However, there was a large window behind the stage, which opened out onto a back alley.

‘Right lads, no arguing now. I’m going out that window, I’ll drive the car up, and ye can pass out the main gear. By that I mean guitars, echo unit and snare drum. We can come back for the rest later’ I raised my hands to forestall any opposition, but there was none. (This manoeuvre also gave me the opportunity to abandon my comrades in the event of their becoming embroiled, but I felt it better not to worry them with this possibility).

Anyway, it worked, and we survived our first exposure to authentic traveller culture, the kind of thing Denise Milani wants us to celebrate.

The War On Christmas

To say I'm not a fan of the Irish bishops would be an understatement. I'm generally not fans of lying, parasitical pedophile-protectors. Their main media outlet, the Veritas chain, also falls under my stern gaze of disapproval. But now I leap to their defence. Why?

Well, they tried to place an Advertisement on RTE and the Broadcasting Commission Of Ireland (BCI) banned it, because, wait for it, it 'might cause offence'. And what might cause offence? The BCI highlighted three lines from the ad. The phrases were: “Christmas, aren’t we forgetting something? - Why not give a gift that means more? - So to give a gift that means more”.

In the name of Jesus - literally - who in their right mind could take offence at this? As a devout secularist it doesn't bother me one iota, and I don't know anyone else who'd take a different position. My own suspicion of course lies with the Religion Of Peace, whose adherents now comprise the second largest religion in Ireland (from virtually zero 20 years ago).

And even if it did 'offend' any of us, so what? My considered response to anyone who takes offence is 'go fuck yourself'. In any event, in my view, the Bishops have an enterprise that's competing in a dwindling market and they're entitled to advertise in support of market share, like any other commercial enterprise. But, also like any other commercial enterprise, they should be taxed on the profits (prophets?) and/or pay an entertainment tax.

The only good thing is that this piece of lunacy has attracted an almost uniformly hostile response, from every source. The Religion Of Peace has been notably silent, I might add.

Gypsy update

Following my post a few days ago on gypsy, er 'culture', a diligent reader sent me this link from the Daily Mail, which goes straight into my bulging 'You Couldn't Make This Up' file.

In a move which has caused disbelief amongst rank and file officers, Scotland Yard has asked staff to 'celebrate' the contribution of Roma gipsies to 'London's culture and diversity.' In a notice posted on the force's intranet website, Denise Milani (pictured), director of the Met's 'Diversity and Citizen Focus Directorate' (I kid you not), urges officers to observe the first ever 'Gipsy Roma Traveller History Month.'

Ignoring the huge drain on resources caused by Romanian pickpockets who target commuters and tourists in the West End, Miss Milani - a protege of Metropolitan Police chief Sir Ian Blair - says Roma gipsies are welcome in the capital. She says: 'We welcome the celebration of the community's history and contributions to London's culture and diversity. 'The Gipsy Roma Traveller History month celebrates their history, culture and contributions to the rich tapestry of Britain's diversity.'

If you need to get a sense of such 'contributions', check my post here.

Her comments were described as 'political correctness off the Richter scale' by one furious detective. He added: 'What planet is this lady living on? We have been run ragged by gangs of Romanian gipsies who are targeting innocent people in the West End. How is that enhancing the rich tapestry of cultural life in Britain?'

Earlier this year, police staged a dramatic series of dawn raids in Slough, Berkshire, in a campaign to stamp out a Fagin-style crime ring involving Romanian slave children smuggled into Britain. Ten children were taken into care and 24 of their suspected controllers arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and organising theft involving up to £1billion a year. Many of those arrested were understood to be Roma gipsies.

The youngsters ranged in age from less than one to 17. Many such children are made to travel to central London every day and carry out crimes including pick pocketing, credit card cloning and theft. Police have estimated that each active Romanian criminal makes about £100,000 a year - most of which is channelled back to his home country to fund luxury cars and homes.

Greece erupts

The Cradle of Democracy has just provided us with a sneak preview of what lies in store for the rest of Europe in the years ahead. In scenes described by the New York Times as ‘resembling something from Africa a war zone’ police have clashed violently with African immigrants protesting over the death of a Nigerian man at the weekend.

The news enraged hundreds of African youths in the neighbourhood, who began attacking police cars with stones and firebombs, burning dozens of cars and smashing shop windows. As one does. "Hundreds of them hit the streets, probably for revenge ... Dozens of police units are gathering to try to control the situation," a police official, who declined to be named, said. Police responded by firing tear gas at the crowd, evacuating some restaurants in the area, and closing several streets to all traffic.

Greece has a massive illegal immigrant problem and given the restrictions on repatriation imposed by European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) the numbers ‘resident’ have been growing rapidly. The growing numbers, inevitably, have raised tensions with the existing population. Equally inevitably, Africans have been at the forefront of the troubles.

And it’s not over yet. Calls are being posted at websites, including the Independent Media Centre, for more people to join the protests in Greece's two main cities, as well as the city of Iraklio, on the island of Crete.
And it's coming to a place near you. Just give it time.

Religion makes us bad: Update

The original post a couple of days ago attracted some spritied objections. One in particular was detailed and convincing and I reprint it here in full in case you missed it.

The South is full of BLACKS. Mississippi and South Carolina are roughly 35% black. Georgia is about 25% black. Tennessee is 16% black. Lousiana is VERY black. Northeastern states like Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts are less than 10% black, with Vermont and Maine and New Hampshire being hardly black at all. Many jobs in the south have been outsourced in the the last 20 years.

You will not find much alcholism among white Protestants, I assure you. I live in the American South. Our problems are in order of decreasing troubles: black, hispanic, with kurdish and asian gangs rounding out the bottom. Its not as if many lower-class whites would not turn to crime and other anti-social activites if they could, but prison here is a living hell for whites............who instinctively know they will be outnumbered badly in there and raped, beat, etc.

So even "white trash" whites generally try and stay on the "right side" of the law, even if they resent it. They become "working poor" before they turn to welfare-ism and criminality. However, their life's chances are getting dimmer and dimmer as more and more factories close shop and go to China, and more tech help in insourced from Pakistan and India, leaving tech-school trained and low-skilled whites with little gainful employment to do.

Many "double up" and work an evening job or get a weekend job with both spouses working to support THEIR ONE KID. Our elite in America have made their choice clear............they HATE AND DESPISE the white middle and working classes and are doing every thing possible to stiffle their birthrates, get them to interbreed with the "new" Americans, and harm their life-chances by every social and educational (its very hard for a white male to get a scholarship to our increasingly expensive colleges unless he really is a brainiac or athlete), and psychological (you ought to read our history'll be made to know you are the bad guy endlessly, and watching our commercials would make an alien think that white males are impossibly stupid and emotionally retarded) way possible.

They are winning. A study "designed" like this one was made to be deceptive from the outset. Any American who has been to these places (the Northeast or the South) knows that the South if full of dysfunctional blacks, many many of whom that were raised in churches, but bought in to the MTV-sold "thug" "rapper" lifestyles (very intentional in my opinion on the part of the elite), and thus take on underclass social folkaways.

Lumping this subset in with white protestant non-drinking babtists, and "speaking-in-tongues" Church of God and uber-conservative Church of Christ types is profoundly deceptive. Even after all the social "warring" upon them, the white protestants in the south still breed at slightly above replacement birthrates. One reason that their divorce rates might not have the expected difference from Northeastern Secular Liberal divorce rates IS BECAUSE THE SOUTHERN CHRISTIANS ACTUALLY GET MARRIED AND NOT SIMPLY COHABITATE. You cant have a very high divorce rate when many people just shack up or delay marriage until their late-30's, when they have to have their one kid or not have one at all."

Thank you for this comment, anonymous. As I said, it's excellently argued and I largely go along with your interpretation.

The Washington Post runs a weekly contest in its Style section called the 'Style Invitational'. The requirements this week were to use the two words 'Lewinsky' (the Intern) and 'Kaczynski' (the Unabomber) in the same limerick.

Third place:

There once was a girl named Lewinsky
Who played on a flute like Stravinsky
'Twas 'Hail to the Chief'
On this flute made of beef
That stole the front page from Kaczynski.

Second place:
Said Clinton to young Ms. Lewinsky,
We don't want to leave clues like Kaczynski,
Since you made such a mess,
Use the hem of your dress
And please wipe that stuff off your chinsky.

And the winning entry:
Lewinsky and Clinton have shown
What Kaczynski must surely have known,
That an intern is better
Than a bomb in a letter,
When deciding how best to be blown.

Religion makes us bad...

I've posted before on what I see as the relatively lower moral standards in religious countries as against those of a more secular bent. In this instance I was specifically referring to the Religion of Peace, for which pointing out comparative moral decrepitude is like taking candy from a baby.

But a study in the Journal of Religion and Society, by a researcher called Gregory Paul, tests the hypothesis that religion leads to more moral living. Specifically that it is associated with lower rates of “lethal violence, suicide, non-monogamous sexual activity and abortion”. He compared data from 18 developed democracies, and discovered that the Christian fundamentalists couldn’t have got it more wrong.

I'm glad to say.

In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion … None of the strongly secularized, pro-evolution democracies is experiencing high levels of measurable dysfunction.”

Within the United States “the strongly theistic, anti-evolution South and Midwest” have “markedly worse homicide, mortality, STD, youth pregnancy, marital and related problems than the Northeast where … secularization, and acceptance of evolution approach European norms”.

Now I admit I'm biased, in that I see formal religion and obscurantism at the heart of almost every conflict in the world today - indeed as far back as we can look. And in this I define Nazism and Communism as religions – albeit non-spiritualist ones.

I must also admit that the statistical techniques used in the survey seem weak (no regression is used, for what seem to me unconvincing reasons) and the fundamental cause/effect imperative has been overlooked. By this I mean that co-relation doesn’t necessarily mean causation.

Still, it’s great to see the craw thumpers having their noses shoved in it. Only problem is, of course, that the new secular religion which has taken the place of Christianity is working out even worse for us, prostrating us before The Beast. So, as I said here, maybe we still need Christianity, even if it makes us immoral bastards!

When Bad Workers Play The Race Card - Sunday Independent, 30 November 2008

'YOU'RE nothing but an Irish racist bully; you talk down to me because I'm black!"
I stayed seated at my desk while the outraged nurse towered above me. With her arms akimbo and voice-a-bellow, I might have been cowed by her stance, except with this particular person, unfortunately, it was nothing new.

I stayed silent for a while and just bided my time, watching her. She had uttered the magic word used by many care staff and nurses I'd met in my 25-year nursing career to get them out of trouble -- 'racist'. This nurse wasn't racist. Nope. She didn't care what race the staff of the institution were -- Polish, Filipino, and Irish staff, all were intimidated, sulked at and terrorised in equal fashion.
She wasn't ageist either. It didn't matter what age the patients were, all were pulled roughly into or out of their chairs, beds or wheelchairs; and name calling of the more confused, such as 'stupid', 'liar' and 'crazy' were commonplace. And this was only the start of her list of attributes.
To my shame, yes, I was racist. If she had been an Irish nurse, I would not only have read her the riot act, I would also have got her suspended and reported her to the Nursing Board's Fitness to Practise committee on first encountering her behaviour.
This was at least my third attempt to reason with her. Sometimes, where ignorance is bliss, the folly of wisdom makes cowards of us all.
Two other foreign workers were employed in another institution where I spent time on the staff. Their problem was that they were constantly late for work and exhausted when they did turn up. They worked separate shifts, one the day and the other the night. Their obvious exhaustion made them perpetually irritable and short-tempered.

When at last, after numerous complaints from staff of different ethnic origins, a senior manager called one of them aside for a chat, the excuse was enlightening. Apparently, the couple had small children, but because their object in working was to save as much money as possible to send back to their native country in preparation for going home, they would not countenance spending money on child-minders.

Therefore, when one arrived to work with the children in the car, the other took over at the end of the shift. The obvious exhaustion and time delay factors aside, child safety -- when the night duty parent was grabbing a few hours' sleep -- raised serious issues. Apparently the television was as overworked as the parents. Numerous diplomatic efforts were made by the manager to highlight the difficulties from the perspective of the institution where they worked.
A doctor from an African country was less than fastidious when it came to hand-washing between patients. He was also curt to the point of rudeness -- not a great attitude to have in any doctor. In fact, he usually bypassed the 'time-wasting' cleanliness in favour of getting the work done.

The issue of infection control, especially with open wounds, was of huge concern to other staff, but insane as it may sound now, none of us felt able to tackle him. This was in the pre-MRSA publicity days. We complained and though he was eventually dealt with, we felt guilty for having delayed at all in complaining.
Our delay was possibly because we feared being accused of racism and, as a result, we allowed that fear to take second place to good professional judgement. Worse, there may have been an element of racism on our part in that subconsciously we thought that perhaps, because of his background, his hygiene training might not have been as good as our own. What we should have realised straightaway was that he was a lazy, grumpy sod.
And in not acting because of fear of being thought racist, we did ourselves and, more importantly, our patients, a disservice.

They walk among us.....

I've long been fascinated by the mind-numbing ignorance you get from participants on quiz shows. Not the ignorance itself, which surrounds us everywhere, rather their ignorance of their ignorance that fascinates.

Who can forget Larry Gogan’s legendary ‘Sixty Second Quiz’ on RTE, where more ignorance was proudly displayed in the eponymous 60 seconds than you’d get in sixty years of normal company. Such entertainment! Sadly I forget almost all of the gems. Just two can I remember ‘what’s Hitler’s first name?’ – ‘Heil’, and ‘what was Vincent van Gogh famous for?’ – ‘captained Holland during the World Cup’.

However, this particular show had no pretensions, nor did the participants. However, many of the following pearls are derived from high-powered contests, white-knuckle time, with substantial money at stake, and where, hard as it will be to believe, the contestants were winnowed out from a huge initial entry.

Jamie Theakston: Where do you think Cambridge University is?
Contestant: Geography isn't my strong point.
Theakston: There's a clue in the title.
Contestant: Leicester.
Alex Trelinski: What is the capital of Italy?
Contestant: France.
Trelinski: France is another country. Try again.
Contestant: Oh, um, Benidorm.
Anne Robinson: - Oscar Wilde, Adolf Hitler and Jeffrey Archer have all written books about their experiences in what: - Prison, or The Conservative Party?
Contestant: The Conservative Party.
DJ Mark: What is the nationality of the Pope?
Ruth from Rowley Regis: I think I know that one. Is it Jewish?
Bamber Gascoigne: What was Gandhi's first name?
Contestant: Goosey?
GWR FM (Bristol)
Presenter: What happened in Dallas on November 22, 1963?
Contestant: I don't know, I wasn't watching it then.

Jeremy Paxman: What is another name for 'cherrypickers' and cheesemongers'?
Contestant: Homosexuals.
Paxman: No. They're regiments in the British Army who will be very upset with you
Presenter: Which is the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world?
Contestant: Barcelona.
Presenter: I was really after the name of a country.
Contestant: I'm sorry, I don't know the names of any countries in Spain.
Question: What is the world's largest continent?
Contestant: The Pacific
O'Brien: How many kings of England have been called Henry?
Contestant: Er, well, I know there was a Henry the Eighth ... er.. .er... Three?
Paul Wappat: How long did the Six-Day War between Egypt and Israel last?
Contestant (after long pause): Fourteen days.
Wright: Johnny Weissmuller died on this day. Which jungle-swinging character clad only in a loincloth did he play?
Contestant: Jesus

Gypsies tramps and thieves

Do I imagine it, or has there been a significant increase in the gypsy population since I've been away? If so, what a disaster.

These particular cultural enrichers are taught that their ancestry involved stealing in the name of God, and as such God has thus rewarded them with the license to steal from non-Gypsies as a means to live. A bit like the Religion Of Peace in that sense. God was certainly successful in this, as they have, in the intervening time, managed to scam incredible sums of money from their victims.

Another feature of gypsy ‘culture’ is that women are the main breadwinners (bread stealers?). In a polar reverse of almost every other culture, whereby a man’s pride is his ability to provide, a male gypsy is demeaned by ‘ordinary’ work. Hence women and children are trained in thievery and scamming from the earliest age.

Their abilities are truly extraordinary. For instance ex-Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson was relieved of his wallet by a small group of gypsy girls who accosted him on the famous Via Veneto in Rome. He gave chase but they outran him!
Despite the usual bleatings of discrimination, gypsy ‘culture’ deems it important that they keep separate from mainstream society, which, and I kid you not, they regard as corrupting! This is like the Muslim with four simultaneous wives, who trades in the oldest for a new teenage model every few years, and who regards Western sexual mores as offensive. Which they do, I might add.
Gypsies and Romanians are not synonymous

There’s a popular misconception that gypsies and Romanians are one and the same. This isn't true at all and causes ordinary Romanians no end of grief and indignation. The belief probably stems from the gypsies being known as Romani, but this actually refers to their language. In fact they originated in India, or more correctly in what is today’s Pakistan, in the Sind region.
For some reason they left there and exploded into central Europe around the 15th century.
Even then they were up to their tricks. The usual scam involved a group claiming to be from Egypt showing up in a city and informing city officials that they were Christians doomed to wander for a period of years to fulfil a penance imposed upon them. They’d collect food, money and letters of protection from the city and then continue to the next town.

I've had – mercifully - only two significant exposures to gypsies. On one occasion in Barcelona I was sitting at a pavement café with some colleagues, our laptops at our feet. Nobody was within 20 feet of us. Suddenly we noticed a row breaking out amongst some gypsies further down the road, much shouting, pushing and screaming, which went on for a few minutes.

Shortly after one of us noticed that his laptop was gone. We were totally dumbfounded as nobody had been near us for about 15 minutes, and we knew it had been there in the intervening time. In a state of great agitation we called the waiter. He shook his head in sympathy and explained what had happened. The ‘row’ had been a distraction. While we’d been looking at it a gypsy accomplice had used a fishing rod to hook the laptop, drag it towards him (more likely her) and make off with it!

The second one was a beauty. Friends of mine in Cork objected to a landlord adding a major extension to the house adjoining theirs. In a highly original move he then filled up the house with about a dozen gypsy ‘refugees’. They made everyone’s life a nightmare. They stole everything that could be stolen, including clothes off their line. Worse, they fought and screamed all day and night, and their girls and younger women entertained their johns in the adjoining areas, often in view of neighbouring children.

These incidents are typical. Throughout Europe gypsies have become a byword for thieving, scamming, welfare dependence, truancy, violence and debased cultural norms. We owe these people nothing. We should force them out without compassion, or at a minimum subject them to the full force of the law. As long as they choose, and I emphasise choose, to live as nomadic parasites they should be treated as such.

And Ireland's problem is.....

The proverbial dogs in the road know that Ireland is blessed with a bloated inefficient civil service, operating under 19th century work practices. Having unsuccessfully tried on a number of occasions to implement technology change there I know the challenges. The main one is that if anyone - anyone - doesn’t like what’s proposed, it doesn’t happen. So the old ways are continued, and the technology investments are wasted. As we’ve seen, billions have gone down the tube over the years.

It’s gratifying then to see that this has now dawned on our new Finance Minister. His biggest problem, he informs us, is that people refuse to move from where they’re not needed to where they are needed. Now get the word ‘refuse’ here, and who’s doing the refusing. They’re very highly paid, have no fear of redundancy, have pensions that those in the private sector can only dream of, are guaranteed pay increases every year, irrespective of the state of the economy. And they ‘refuse’ to move to where they’re needed.

Now once again, I come storming to the rescue, with a piece of brilliant innovative thinking that's quite clearly beyond the mental capacities of the Minister. And it’s this. Proclaim the following message to anyone who ‘refuses’ to transfer to where he’s needed: ‘you’re fired – clear out your desk’.

Now isn't that simple? Well, it should be. But for it to work the Government would have to do it’s job and confront the public sector unions. And this being Ireland, they won't do that. So the problem rolls on, financed by the increasingly beleaguered private sector golden goose. And how long will it be before this particular goose gives a final honk and expires?

Dumb drummers

My time in the rock business convinced me that drummers are at the very bottom of the food chain. And it figures. All you need is a sense of rhythm, you don't need to know any tricky stuff like chord formations, scales or harmonies. And I think it’s no surprise that black-dominated ‘music’ such as (c)rap is almost 100% rhythm, with only a token top line and a complete absence of complexity.

Steve, a drummer colleague of mine, typified the species, as this story underlines. His most notable characteristic was a mouthful of bad teeth. He must have been in agony from the exposed nerves, but he never seemed to notice. On one occasion, driving back from a gig in Kerry (I was at the wheel of the VW minibus) I made a comment to Pat Casey, the bass player. No response.

Now this in itself wasn’t surprising. Most of the scumbags would have been in a state of semi-inebriation, or could have been comatose due to the prevailing atmosphere in the vehicle. This was made up of:

A Certain Smile...

+ Oxygen/nitrogen 10%
+ Alcohol fumes 30%
+ Sweat fumes 10%
+ Steve’s rotting teeth 10%
+ Cigarette smoke 20%
+ Fart fumes (methane) 20%

This toxic fusion had a particularly severe impact on members who were not acclimatized. And Pat was very new. So I asked Steve, who was sitting beside Pat, to rouse him.

He’s not dare’

‘What do you mean he’s not there?’

‘He’s not dare’

‘Jesus Steve, I was talking to him ten minutes ago, I've been driving at 60 mph since then, so what the fuck do you mean he’s not there?’

‘He’s not dare’

I carefully turned around. And Steve was right! Where Pat had been, crushed up to Steve, there was now a void.

‘Jesus H. Christ Steve’ I screamed, ‘you’re sitting beside a guy, jammed up against him in fact, for an hour. He disappears, and you didn’t think it worth mentioning?’
‘I was tinkin’ about it’ he responded, offended

You were fucking thinking about it???

‘Sweet Jesus!’

In a sharp departure from German engineering standards, the VW minibus in those days had a side sliding door, which, if the catch were damaged, could fly open on the taking of a sharp right turn. And indeed, as we tracked back, we confirmed that this is what happened, finding Pat spread-eagled at the side of the road.

The last I heard of Steve was that, many years after the band’s breakup, he had seen Cormac, another old band buddy, in Academy St. in Cork. As they rushed to embrace they lost their footing at the edge of the kerb and fell in a tangled heap. Both ended up in hospital, Steve with a broken leg and Cormac with a broken wrist!

How did I ever grow up to be the normal balanced person I now am?

A nation in shock: Update

As anyone who checked the link for the previous post found out, the post was true - well, the scam info was true, maybe the public reaction was a bit exaggerated!

Some great comments - well worth reading. I publish one below and another which states "with each passing day and year in this now defunct Republic understanding of how hitler came to power in Germany becomes more apparent."

So true. But the difference is that Hitler came to power without much control of the media, here the 'enemy' have total control.

Anyway, check this:

"Maybe we should not be so quick to simply lay all the blame on the asylum fraudsters alone! It takes two to tango. And boy there seems to be plenty of money freely flowing around the asylum scam. For Nigerians it provides them a comfortable escape, away from their own particular brutal kindred, as well as being handed a 95% winning chance in a jackpot for life.

Factually just 5% of the more blatant fraudsters are ever repatriated by our so called liberal authorities. Therefore 95% of all asylum fraudsters get to milk our “free give away programs” funded by befuddled and bewildered Irish Taxpayers. Such well practiced scammers as Nigerians must surely be tickled pink at the level of crass stupidity they find in their “Irish benefactors”.

The Nigerians as colonisers have for many years targeted Ireland as their No 1 global destination. And indeed who could blame them at this stage. Of course for their own part they will ensure in due course that as or new colonisers they will deliver for Dublin and other cities here what they have long inflicted upon their own native Lagos and Abuja.

The word hellholes and living nightmares would not even begin to describe them adequately. No doubt our asylum cash must be some of the softest money available in the world, something which of course would be particularly attractive for such well practiced con-artists as Nigerians i.e.- and without the usual necessity for a gun or machete! All things considered it’s probably far more rewarding to them than even their usual, but somewhat tarnished, 419 Scams.

But yet surely the real responsibility for this self inflicted disaster must sit fairly and squarely on the shoulders of our own most Pious and sanctimonious political leaders. For Nigerians to operate this particular scam and milk it dry all that's ever really needed is a primitive-sounding, hard luck story and everything else usually flows from there, like milk and honey. Even their “tallest yarns” can never really be checked!

Travelling the 5,000 Klms or so to claim their bonanza, is compensated for, as the Irish gombeen natives have been conditioned to fawn over them and welcome them as “New Irish”, a professional chorus led and orchestrated by such maniac “half-wits” as –“Kebabs” Lenihan, Philip Watt, Ivana Bacik, and a rather pathetic effeminate old windbag known as Norris.

In return whatever the Nigerian “New Irish” might have a fancy for, such as a house, (fully furnished), free medical care, education for kids, legal aid, special needs monies, home foods, community welfare officer, translations, Cars, mobile Telephones, Satellite TV., remember all are freely available on demand, courtesy of unwitting Irish taxpayers. And by golly do Nigerians demand their “rights” Eventually the door opens to them upon a more resplendent package of welfare allowances along with their acquisition of Irish passports with few questions asked, easily producing up to @ Euros 3000 per month or so for life.

Why should anybody want to work and pay taxes for a living, when they reach this island of milk and honey? Only 38% of Nigerians even toy with such ideasBy way of insurance should any of the natives who after all are forced to fund this barefaced scam even dare question such " bountiful generosity" at their expense, they can easily be intimidated and dismissed, simply by labelling them "Racists" "Nazis" or "Xenophobes"

How can any sane person at this stage hide from the fact that the lunatics have indeed taken over the running of the asylum (the one we still call Ireland). Sure you couldn’t even make it up!"

A nation in shock

The nation reeled in shock today at a stunning report in the Irish Independent. Readers stood paralysed, glued to their copy of the newspaper as the amazing story unfolded. ‘I’m absolutely flabbergasted, who’d have thought that Nigerian asylum seekers were dishonest’ gasped Jean Pool, as, shaking, she read once again the following report:

Nigerians Net Millions Through Welfare Fraud

Figures obtained by the Irish Independent last night showed that one Nigerian man and his wife had illegally claimed almost €33,000 a year in social welfare before the racket was discovered.

A Nigerian woman who applied for asylum here in 2003 and was granted refugee status in 2005 and who was subsequently found to have a multi-entry visa for the UK, which she sought while living in Lagos. She had previously claimed in her asylum application that she had been forced to flee from Nigeria. She is still living here in receipt of rent allowance of €1,143 a month and payments of €245.80 weekly.

A Nigerian man who was stopped in Belfast on his way to Dublin, had two Nigerian passports, one which gave him permission to live in Ireland and the other to reside in the UK. He was registered to live here with his Nigerian wife on the basis that they had an Irish-born child but he had also been granted the right to live in the UK on the basis of a marriage to a Portuguese woman. He works in the UK but he and his wife claim social welfare benefits of €32,677.60 a year from the Irish State..

Another Nigerian man was stopped in Belfast while in transit to Birmingham. He had been here to collect his monthly social welfare benefit of €2,240. He is suspected of sub letting a house in Longford and is stated to have left the country in 2005.

€14 million has now been recovered since 2004.

‘I'm stunned’ exclaimed Inspector Robin Banks, ‘we in the police always thought of Nigerians as diligent, honest, hard-working - model citizens.'

‘Dishonest Nigerians, who could have guessed?’ he asked, shaking his head ruefully.

But as the day wore on the mood shifted from shock to outrage in many quarters. ‘This story is clearly a hate crime directed against a weak, vulnerable and marginalised minority, who fled terrible persecution in their home country’ claimed June Flowers, Chairperson of the Irish Refugee Council. ‘We will - funded by the taxpayer of course - fight these scandalous attacks all the way to the European Court if necessary’ she declared.

‘I was never so ashamed of being Irish’ she sobbed, adding ‘we plan to invoke anti-discrimination legislation to ensure that The Independent is closed down immediately, and for good’

When madmen lead the blind...

The unimaginably huge bailout for Citigroup highlights the unique revolving door process between the public and private sectors in the US. Most countries have a simple enough method whereby a politician or senior civil servant looks after an industry while in office and then, on early retirement, takes up a lucrative position as a reward, and in which he can undertake some keenly-focused lobbying with his old pals.

In America it’s different. Here you go back and forth as needs demand. It’s important to realize that there’s no bribery involved. No sir! It’s strictly above board. Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are prime examples, as is Richard (“Richard The Turd”) Perle.

While in a legislative or similar role, these crooks guys cook up the necessary legislation and/or stoke up a war to boost the ‘defence’ industry. For example Cheney was the main driver behind the Iraq invasion, the main beneficiaries happened to be Halliburton, where he was a former CEO. That company of course went on to earn billions from the Iraq caper, often by way of no-bid contracts, and which involved tens of millions in bogus charges to the Department of ‘Defence’.

Again, these manoeuvres simply pulsate with honesty. No secret bank accounts, no furtive payments in back alleys. No. However, the participants can make tens if not hundreds of millions while ‘employed’ in the private sector. All above board. Then, after a while, the call of ‘public service’ pulls them away, after which they resume their ‘legislative’ careers. The image is one of tough, no-nonsense businessmen, compelled to give up, albeit temporarily, lucrative careers in the cause of ‘public service’. So they win on the double.

The success or lack of same in the private sector has little impact on their careers. For instance Cheney was a disaster at Halliburton as a CEO, but this was more than compensated for by the er, other services he provided. And this brings me to Robert Rubin, late of Citigroup.
The staggering scale of the Citigroup collapse

The truly staggering scale of this bank’s downfall almost beggars belief. $300 billion plus in potential support, with 70,000 employees being laid off this year.
This assumes that the bank actually does survive.
The downfall was years in the making and was masterminded - inadvertantly - by said Bob Rubin. Citigroup insiders and analysts say that Rubin played pivotal roles in the bank’s current woes, by drafting and blessing a strategy that involved taking greater trading risks to expand its business and reap higher profits.

Rubin had moved seamlessly between Wall Street and Washington. After making his millions as a trader and an executive at Goldman Sachs, he entered ‘public service’ as Treasury Secretary under the Clinton administration. In this role he helped loosen Depression-era banking regulations that made the creation of Citigroup possible by allowing banks to expand far beyond their traditional role as lenders and permitting them to profit from a variety of financial activities. During the same period he helped beat back tighter oversight of exotic financial ‘products’.

He then, good career move, joined Citigroup, in 1999. All above board, as I say. Since then, in his role as a trusted adviser to the bank’s senior executives, Rubin’s mantra has been “you have to take more risk if you want to earn more”. This resulted in churning out billions of dollars in mortgage-related securities. As it built up that business, it used accounting manoeuvres to move billions of dollars of the troubled assets off its books, freeing capital so the bank could grow even larger. Little wonder that they were so heavily involved in the Enron and dotcom scandals, all during Rubin’s watch.

According to current and former colleagues, Rubin believed that Citigroup was falling behind rivals and he pushed to bulk up the bank’s high-growth fixed-income trading, including the CDO business.
Now get this: Citigroup’s risk models never accounted for even the possibility of a national housing downturn, In fact the bank told the SEC that the probability of those mortgages (in the CDOs) defaulting was so tiny that they excluded them from their risk analysis. The slice of mortgage-related securities held by Citigroup was “viewed by the rating agencies to have an extremely low probability of default (less han .01%),” according to Citigroup slides used at the meeting and reviewed by The New York Times.
These are the big swinging dick geniuses who told the rest of us that it was all too complex for us to understand! And they gave a housing crisis zero possibility!

Well, as the bank gets $375 billion of public money we know how accurate that was. So has Rubin grown a beard, taken to wearing a blond wig and moved to the Outer Hebrides? Of course not. He’s now a leading light in the Obama economic transition team and is a serious contender for a senior Cabinet position. In which role he can conjure up more innovative legislation before heading back to the private sector once again.
As Shakespeare said, 'when madmen lead the blind.....'
